Essential Functions

Duties and Responsibilities of the Social Worker Include:

  • Participate in meetings (IEP, RTI, 504, conflict resolution, case conference) with staff, students, agencies, and other personnel.

  • Facilitate communication between school and home by gathering pertinent student information through conducting home visits, holding conferences via telephones, and written communication.

  • Counsel parents on improving the home environment to enable the student to achieve their highest potential in regard to academics, attendance, behavior, socialization, communication, and special interests.

  • Work closely with teachers, psychologists, school counselors, and administrators regarding students' needs that may require referrals and individual programs.

  • Work closely with school attendance personnel and teachers regarding students who are frequently tardy and/or display frequent absenteeism (Also work to prevent potential dropouts).

  • Assists, initiate, and participate the enforcement of  Griffin-Spalding County Attendance Task Force

  • Supervise the appropriate service referrals for students and families, and serve as liaison for outside agencies such as DFCS, DJJ, and State Court.

  • Assist schools in determining guardianship and custody concerns.

  • Plans and implements therapeutic individual and group sessions to address students' needs, goals, and objectives upon request.

  • Facilitate school enrollment of, and offers support to, families eligible for McKinney-Vento services.

  • Participate in community committees as representative of the school system.

  • Act as a member of the school crisis team, and participate in suicide response/intervention in accordance to district protocol.

  • Participate in District-Level and school-based learning activities, attends professional conferences, and seeks out other professional learning opportunities for continued professional growth.

  • Submit accurate monthly report on School Social Work Services provided per current reporting requirements.

  • Complied with the Code of Ethics for Educators adopted by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and the Code of Ethics for Social Workers adopted by the National Association of Social Workers.
